Fushen Pigment is an enterprise in Wanshi Town, Fuyang District, Hangzhou. Although it is located in the mountains and surrounded by dense bamboo forests, the pigments produced here have gone to the whole country, and the products are spread across all walks of life. From a small workshop in a mountain village to a national high-tech enterprise, Wu Honggen, general manager of Fushen Pigment Co., Ltd., has a lot of emotion.

In 1992, Wu Honggen founded a pigment processing enterprise in Wanshi. It was very difficult at the beginning of his business. Wu Honggen was a layman, did not understand the industry, and the equipment was very simple. He had to rely on his own research and seek advice. He recruited more than a dozen people. He took the lead in tackling key problems from equipment to product technology.
"Don't blindly produce, follow the market", this is Wu Honggen stick to the way of management. For decades, Fushen has continuously adjusted its product structure, developed different colors, searched for different raw materials according to customer requirements, and tailored pigments of different qualities and colors.
The raw material of the pigment is iron oxide, plus the cost of various additives. In the past, the price of the finished paint was higher, and even some companies had to lose money to make pigments. In order to find better raw materials, Wu Honggen often ran around the country, visited large smelters, and even went abroad to find.

After testing countless raw materials and touching the wall many times, Wu Honggen found the answer by chance: using industrial waste into pigments.

When chatting with his friends and talking about industrial materials, Wu Honggen was inspired: Can the scrap iron mud from the iron and steel plant be used in pigments? Without further ado, he bought a pile of scrap iron and took it to the research institute for analysis, only to find that the iron content was very high. This coarse particle iron mud, after fine treatment, added to the iron black pigment, not only high coloring strength, but also reduce the cost.
"We are the first in the country to turn scrap iron into raw materials for pigments. This technology is leading in the industry. Downstream customers use this iron black product to produce coatings, and the cost performance is much higher than before." Wu Honggen said. Fushen pigment tasted the results of research and development, customers and orders kept coming, and the output of iron black pigment exceeded 50%.

Later, Fushen continued to innovate, yellow, white, pink... As long as the customer's color requirements, from looking for raw materials, doing research and development, and then put on the market, it will be completed within a week or two. "'fast' and'small' are our advantages. We can respond quickly and make more cost-effective products." Wu Honggen said.
Today, Fushen pigments have more than 20 invention patents. From the original sales of several million yuan to more than 30 million yuan, the annual output of the enterprise exceeds 12000 tons, and the downstream customers are all over the country. The products are used in building materials, paints, coatings, cosmetics and other industries.

A few years ago, when it was generally "difficult to do business", Wu Honggen insisted on a set of ideas: research and development according to market needs, rather than research and development and then sales. This has been recognized by the market, in China's many pigment enterprises, Fushen pigment by cost-effective stand out.

In the green mountains, into the Fushen pigment factory, here is a busy production scene, mixer workshop, drying workshop, the roar of machines, workers shuttle back and forth.

Over the years, the market environment has been ups and downs, but Fushen's factory has never been "idle. Everyone worked overtime to catch up on orders and expand production capacity, but it was still too late. "Because we are constantly innovating and reforming, the demand for orders is increasing year by year."

At the beginning of the establishment of the enterprise, Wu Honggen paid special attention to low-carbon and environmental protection. Instead of extensive production and simple consumption of resources, he wanted to seek benefits from green and become a sustainable development enterprise.
In the past 30 years, the factory has undergone many transformations, from simple shacks to steel structures, and many large equipment have been installed. Fushen has reformed the production mechanism, stopped using high-energy-consuming equipment such as calciners, and developed and customized more environmentally friendly and efficient equipment to save energy and reduce emissions as much as possible.
"By upgrading and transforming the production environment, improving green production technology, and strengthening the comprehensive utilization of social waste and side resources, Fushen Pigment has embarked on the road of circular economy." In 2018, Fushen was rated as a national high-tech enterprise and received hundreds of thousands of yuan in policy subsidies. In 2022, it was rated as an innovative small and medium-sized enterprise in Zhejiang Province. "The government not only gives us policy support, but also takes the initiative to help us and answer our questions in applying materials and participating in the selection." Fu Shen pigment deputy general manager Wu Jiaqi said.

Wu Jiaqi said: in recent years, the government has often visited enterprises to seek development, solve problems for enterprises, and give us lectures on production safety and environmental protection. During the epidemic prevention and control period, the government has special control over logistics vehicles and assisted us in vehicle testing and killing, so that we can maintain production without downtime.

With the recognition and support of the society, Fushen has been trying to give back to the society.
At present, there are about 30 people in Fushen Company, and the factory has recruited about a dozen disabled people. Some positions, such as simple raw material drying posts, are given priority to the disabled. They get a salary of about 6000, which can provide food and clothing. Some outsiders have a long way to work, and Fushen also arranges accommodation for them.

Now, into the 21st century, as people pay more attention to energy and improve the utilization of resources, pigment production has changed from a simple resource consumption production-oriented enterprise to a comprehensive utilization of secondary resources in the society.
